Being born in Curaçao, it remains an island very close and dear to my heart. Personally, I like to call it "The Hidden Gem of the Caribbean" as its unheard of by many. Here is a little glimpse into some of the islands most beautiful, crystal clear waters.
1. Klein Curaçao.
Klein Curaçao is about 2km and completely uninhabited. The only things on the island are some huts, an abandoned lighthouse, and a shipwreck. The government of Curaçao has prohibited people from building or selling anything on the island in order to preserve it, and to be honest its for the better. Klein Curaçao is clean, beautiful and far commercial.
The Curaçao flag has one big star, and one smaller star representing Klein Curaçao which translated to "Little Curaçao". This paradise can only be reached by boat and takes about 40 minutes depending on the conditions of the Sea. Make sure to bring sunscreen, enough food and drinks for the day and a snorkel if you want a chance at seeing turtles, sting rays, colourful fish and even dolphins if you're lucky enough.
2. Kenepa Grandi
Kenepa Grandi, or Grote Knip is located in Bandabou, Curaçao which means "downside". Its about a 45 minute drive from the centre of Curaçao and its definitely worth the drive. Grote Knip is in a sort of cove, which means its situated between high rocks - you can even jump off of the rocks if you dare. The beach is 100% free and accessible to the public. Unfortunately there is no restaurant at the beach so I always bring a cooler filled with drinks and ice, as well as some snacks. Jaanchies or Karakter is close by and recommended for lunch.
3. Porto Marie
Just like Kenepa Grandi, Porto Marie is also located in Bandabou. There is a beautiful reef that is easily accessible from the shore and is loved by divers and snorkle fanatics. There are also three separate hiking trails for nature lovers. Porto Marie is privately owned unlike Kenepa Grandi which is government owned. So, they charge 3$ per person and children under 12 can enter for free. This beach is one of the few that does have a bar/restaurant serving local and basic dishes.
4. Cas Abou
It's definitely safe to say that the best beaches in Curaçao are all located in Bandabou. Cas Abou is my next favorite. I love Cas Abou because it holds so many fun memories for me. I particularly like Cas Abou because the white strip of sand is longer than most others, yet its still in a cove making it a nice romantic walk.... if you're into that type of stuff.
Like Porto Marie, Cas Abou is privately owned and charges 10,- (about 5$) per vehicle. Cas Abou does have a small snack bar that sells drinks and basic food like fries, burgers and ice creams. PS: Picture 1 is Ouasim and I :-)
5. Mood Beach - Madero Beach Club - Lions Dive - Hemingway
If you're looking for "gezelligheid" (gezellig literally translates to 'cozy' but it really means a fun ambiance surrounded by music, and people) as they say in Dutch these beaches are definitely for you. The reason I put them all under one subtitle is due to the fact that they are all next to each other, basically on the same strip, and you can walk from one beach straight to the next. Personally, I love having lunch at Mood Beach and then walking on to swim at Madero. This beach is closer to the city centre and has many restaurants, bars and shops.
